Altered Altoid Tin and Prize Pack

Good Wednesday morning! As you can see, there have been more changes to the SS blog! Our cute little background was causing some performance issues with the blog, so we changed it again. Hopefully, this new one will behave for everyone!

As promised, here is the picture of the prize for the "New" challenge that I posted yesterday!

The random drawing winner will get both the Heidi Swapp Summer frame kit and the Cosmo Cricket blackboard mini album kit. The mini album has 6 pages ready for you to decorate. The frame kit includes:

5 chipboard frames
1 rub on sheet
3 ribbons
6 mini brads
2 label holders
6 index tabs and inserts
6 decorative tapes
2 ghost words

How cute are these?? We also set up an inlinkz link for the entries, so no need to email them. Have fun!

On to today's project ... My godson is turning 18 this weekend. He is attending a culinary school here in Boston and I am so proud of him! We got him a gift card for an online chef supply store for his present so that he can buy some tool of the trade that he may need. (Visions of Spongebob and his Crabby Patty spatula here!!) I have quite a little collection of altoid tins that I have had my husband save for me, so I decided to alter one to hold the gift card. After googling and finding a couple of sites with ideas and tutorials, I measured and cut out my pieces from Graphic 45 Steampunk paper and attached them using my ATG gun and my Xyron. Once attached, I Mod Podged them to seal everything. I added the do-dads on top, trying to keep it masculine. (I so wanted to add a ribbon or something sparkly!!) It really was much easier than I thought it would be! I will be making more of these guys for the holidays. Keep the tins coming, honey!

Terrific Tuesday and a Challenge!!

Good morning, scrappers & crafters! It is another gorgeous day here in New England; quite a difference from the wild weather this weekend. Still keeping the poor people of Vermont and other areas hard hit by Irene in our prayers.

So, on a scrappy message board that I visit, they challenged us to make a layout of Irene and her impact as it was happening, based on a sketch that they posted. Thankfully, there wasn't really a whole lot of mess or destruction around our neighborhood to take pictures of and I was too chicken to get in the car and head over a couple of towns to the beach. So, what's a scrapper to do when challenged and there aren't any fitting pictures?!?! Well, since it was all over the news on every station, I decided to take pictures of the TV!!! You should have seen the look on my husband's face. (He should know me by now!)
This was the end result:

I have had that scalloped paper, letter stickers and rub on quote in my stash forever. The paper looked like a big cloud with wind going through it to me, so I thought it worked. The hurricane flags were punched with a square punch and then I added 1/2" squares to the middle of them. I embossed the middle circle with the Divine Swirls folder, added a couple of swirly stickers from my stash and - wa-la - done!

A Challenge!!

So, I was thinking yesterday that with all this new-ness, it is a good time for a challenge! I will have a nice little package posted tomorrow as the prize. Here are the deets:

Create a LO (any size) that represents "New". It could be a new baby, a new job, a new car, a new beginning, a new house, a new school .... you get the idea!

You do not have to be a follower, but we would love it if you were. :)

Entries will be due Saturday, September 10th 2011 at midnight eastern time. The winner will be chosen from a random drawing on Sunday.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

So Much Newness!!

Good morning, all! Hoping that all of our East Coast friends are safe after the wild weekend from Hurricane Irene. We were lucky in our neighborhood; lots of wind and a few downed branches, but nothing like some other places saw. Thoughts and prayers going out to them as they start cleaning up.

Today is full of new things here at SS. As you can see, Laurie and I played with the template and design last night. We had quite a few laughs while doing it! Laurie starts her new job today; Kel is moved in to the new place and is having fun unpacking boxes; and I am helping out with the blog. Total blogging noobie, so I am going to apologize in advance for any weird formatting or other things that show up! ;)

Today is Laurie's husband's birthday, too! He is always helping my hubby out with things around our house and is such a nice guy. This is the card that I made for him from my family. You have seen some of my cards with this little owl guy before. I just love him!

Details:

I have really been trying to use things in my stash and not buy or even cut things until some of it gets used up!

Stamps: Cornish Heritage Stamps: U R A  Hoot Set
Memento black ink
Copics: E34, E35, Y15, YR12, B12, YG11
Happy Birthday chipboard: EK Success
Metal tag and patterned paper: stash

I am looking forward to "chatting" with you all each day and hope I can do Kel and Laurie justice. They will be back soon! Have a great day!

Good news and Thank you card

Good morning all! Thank you for ALL for the well wishes!!! Means so much to me! I made this thank you card for Dawn. She has been so great during these past few weeks, always checking on me and sending me cards! She is a good BFF, so I wanted to make a thank you card!

I used a lot of paper from my stash. I used Divine Swirls for the pink paper, and crinkly ribbon for the bow. The stamp is from My Creative Time. The heart paper is from Heidi Grace.

This is what happens when I make a card, it looks like hurricane hit!!

Onto the good news, Dawn is going to keep the blog going in mine and Kel's absence. With Kel on move number 2 and me starting my new job, Dawn has graciously offered to keep the ship a sailing as they say!! I am sure you will not be disappointed with Dawn's work, and I when I make some creations I will send them to Dawn. I am off to check out what everyone has been working on!

GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS and A TRAVEL LAYOUT

Good morning everyone! Well today I have good news and bad news. If you were my 11 year old son you would go with bad news first. I personally like it the other way around. So I will go with good news first: I got a job!!! I received the offer late yesterday afternoon! I am sooo happy. Only one day of "unemployment" and I nailed it. I didn't even sign up for unemployment, so that was good!!

Bad news: I am not sure I will be able to blog during the week for a little bit. I will have to get the kiddos off to school and head right into work. I will def try to get some things up over the weekends. As many of you know, I have worked from home for many a year! So this should be interesting. Thank you all for keeping everything crossed (you can now uncross) and ALL your prayers, they did work!!!

Ok, on to my page, lol!! I did this page with no picture, as you can see. On our recent trip to Florida we were upgraded to 1St class on the way home!! Well you would have thought you gave us a million dollars. I sat next to our 16 year old and we had so much fun. We couldn't even stand ourselves!! There is a lot of journaling (that never happens) on this page, because as I say to Kel and Dawn all the time "it's all about the story". ALL the embellishments are from DCWV Travel Stack, Chipboard Box!! So many to choose from! The paper is travel paper and I just can't remember where I got it.

Anniversary Card

Good morning everyone!! You will be happy to know I got down to the scrapcave this weekend, it had been a while. Also, Dawn was up in the scrap attic, I got to more awesome layouts from her as well!! I guess everyone is getting their mojo back, or we just need to get away from the kids, lol! I was checking out the blog scene yesterday and I saw on Rhonda's blog, http://bumblcreate.blogspot.com/.

how it was it was 11:30 am and she was wondering how long it would take her hubby to realize it was there anniversary! Husbands are a funny bunch aren't they? Anyway got me to thinking, my anniversary is coming up, so I should whip up a card. My biggest problem is remembering where I put the card when my anniversary comes! Here are the deets of the card:

Create a Critter for the birds, I selected two birds to print and I flipped on before it cut, pg 65, 2.50", with layer 1 and 2.

Brach Create a critter page 25 cut at 2.50"

Card base is 5.5 x 5.5" bigger than the standard card.

Swiss dots cuttlebug folder for the birds and forest branches for the branch.

The calendar is from a Tim Holtz stack I have and the Happy Anniversary is from My Creative Time.

The google eyes (well this is a funny story). I text Dawn a while ago to ask if she had any google eyes, because I couldnt' find mine. She looked and looked and couldn't find hers either. So she order some, I am not sure of the website, but she got a TON. When they arrived, one morning over coffee we sorted the google eyes, we have enough to last us a life time!!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Too Funny

Good morning Ladies - I am telling you if it wasn't for Dawn, we wouldn't have any entertainment on this blog. With Kel moving and me searching for a job, we haven't been able to do any crafting, quite sad really.

Dawn did this page for a challenge on one of the boards she belongs to. The challenge was "you had to use the word “moxie” which means vigor, verve or pep. I thought this picture was perfect for that word, since it was 6:30 in the morning when he came in our room dressed like this! I did break down and buy the Jolees doctor embellies because they were just too cute. Everything else was from my stash. Look – I used letter stickers!"

Is this not the cutest layout, I love the paper and all the newly bought Jolee embellishments. Sometimes you just need the perfect embellishment!! Awesome job Dawn!!

I just wanted to let you know that I am in the final stages of the interview process at what looks to be a great company. I will hopefully hear something today, everything has gone great thus far. I actually to had to meet my potential boss at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston for breakfast yesterday!! Fancy me!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I plan on doing some crafting!!!! Thanks for stopping by and all your awesome comments, we do appreciate them!!!

Another fun layout by Dawn

I am telling you, Dawn has been on a roll with getting her layouts done. Dawn signed up for a free class on Big Picture Scrapping, http://www.bigpictureclasses.com/. And each day they have a new word they have to use on the their layout, this one is share. She had this adorable picture of her hubby and son and listed all the traits they share. What a great page to have!! I love it. And the best things, all the stuff she used was from her stash, except for the word Share and the journaling lines, they were provided by the class. Such an awesome layout!!

Isn't this LO adorable! This was one of their vacations down Cape Cod. Love the paper and the little fish and seashell. Just adorable!! Great job Dawn. Dawn has been doing a good job using her stash! I do see some stitching on here, my favorite!! Here are some deets:

3 patterned paper
1 cardstock

I wanted to let you all now that I received and email saying they didn't want me back next week that they hired someone else. Way to kick someone when they are down!! Casual Wedding Card

Hello everyone! I want to thank each and everyone of you that commented yesterday and all your kind words, it really does go a long way when someone takes the time to help lift up a friend!! THANK YOU. I think all your good thoughts and prayers worked, I have a lot of doors opening up and I feel good things are coming my way!!! Woohoo! I made this card for my cousin and his new wife. My cousin is truly an inspiration! He fought hard and long to gain full custody of his three kids and give them the stable home they deserve! He is a true hero. He is also in the Air Force and is a hero in that sense as well. He met a fabulous girl (god bless her coming into the home with three kids!). They had a very quiet, casual wedding. I wanted to show them that we are so happy for them and proud of what they have accomplished as a couple.

The hearts and letters were cut out from the preloaded cartridge on my E2. Alphabet and Essentials. The ribbon is the crinkly ribbon from My Craft Spot (Love this ribbon) and the stamp is from Creative Time. Inked the edges (of course its an addiction) and added the little pearls with the Pearl Pen. Patterned paper is from a Wedding scrapbooking kit I bought a long time ago. I am using all my supplies, not buy any!!

Have a wonderful day!!!!

Sorry it's been so long.

Good morning everyone. Sorry it has been so long since we posted. Things are a big crazy around here. I just found last week that I am losing my job! Came as a shock! So still trying to process that. And believe or not Kel is moving again. This time to a bigger and better place AND on the same street as Dawn and I, watch out husbands!! They will never see us.

I decided I needed to have some fun last night and I did the page. This pic was taken the first night we were in Florida, and I am in the picture, woohooo, never happens.

Here is a close up of the little calendar. It was a bright green, but inked it up to soften the color. I used patterned paper and folded the love the travel down behind my picuter to make it a mat. Together is a sticker from my stash and the paper clips are from StampinUP.

Here is the stamp set and the tools I used on my page.

I hope everyone had a great great weekend! I will swing by and check out what you are working on.

Graduation Card

Here is a card I made for our friend's daughter for her graduation. I am trying to get better and making cards. I am more of a scrapbooker, but I am trying.

I started out with a 5.5 card base and then I cut out the "Class of" from Wild Card, at are you ready for this 10.50, that was as big I could go! That is no way shape or form 10.50! Sometimes the Cricut does drive me crazy!!! I used Plantin School book for the 2011 and I shadowed that. Bakers Twine, the star paper is from my stash and the word graduation and the diploma is from Joelee Boutique embellishments. The yellow strip of paper, embossed with Forest Branches and I used a Fiskars punch on the edges.

Funny story about the punch. I had my older son (16) with me and I had to run to Michaels, and he said do you need me to come in. I was going to say no, but realized I had two coupons, and then I thought if I see something I really want he can wait in line with one of he coupons. He was all game and off we went. I made it a quick trip, but the fact he wanted to come I was thrilled!!!! I got this punch for $7.50.

He turned 16 in May and let me tell you, I am LOVING this 16 year old!! He has changed, all for the good and he really is growing up into a gentleman, makes me sad and proud at the same time!!
